SF Cop, Ranger Attacked By Branch-Wielding Homeless Man in GG Park

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco police officer and a ranger in Golden Gate Park were attacked by a homeless man with a branch Sunday morning, a police spokesman said.

At about 10 a.m., a park ranger approached a homeless man near Stern Meadow, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

During the interaction, the suspect became resistant and struck the ranger with a tree limb or branch, Esparza said.

A police officer responded, and the homeless man also hit the officer, Esparza said.

Both the ranger and the officer were injured, Esparza said.

The suspect was arrested.

The incident remains under investigation.
