Truck Strikes, Kills 8-Year-Old San Jose Boy
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle Friday evening in San Jose.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. officers responded to the 800 block of Farm Drive to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
According to preliminary investigations, Matthew Dinh was riding a small electric-powered "pocket bike" when he entered the roadway and was fatally struck by a 2008 Chevrolet truck.
The boy was transported to Valley Medical Center with major injuries and pronounced dead at 8:31 p.m., according to police.
The child was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, police said.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
Police said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
