NAPA (CBS SF) — Emergency officials in Napa County have called off a search on the Napa River for a San Francisco man who went into the water while fishing early Sunday morning.
Jose Ernesto Magana, 26, was apparently fishing with a friend off of Brazos Bridge on the Green Island Road side at about 2:45 a.m., Napa County Sheriff’s Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
Magana fell into the water and his friend, who did not know how to swim, called 911.
Detectives responded to the scene and spoke with a neighbor who reportedly heard yelling and screaming in Spanish, and heard a splash in the water.
Magana had not been located as of 2 p.m. this afternoon, and officials called of the search for the day, Stuart said.
A sheriff’s boat team would likely continue the search on Monday, Stuart said.
Napa County Sheriff’s search and rescue deputies, the California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard articipated in today’s search.
