SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The Civic Center BART Station reopened Sunday afternoon after a train experienced a brake overload and emitted smoke, a dispatcher said.

San Francisco firefighters responded to reports of an explosion and smoke in the station at about 1:45 p.m.

The train that experienced the brake problem had to be taken out of service, and trains through San Francisco were halted in both directions for about an hour, a BART dispatcher said.

Civic Center Station had to be evacuated and was closed while the incident was investigated.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

San Francisco Municipal Railway service was temporarily disrupted but was back to full service by about 2:45 p.m., Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.

BART trains also returned to full service by about 3 p.m. and were running on time, a dispatcher said.
