SAN MATEO (CBS SF) — A 21-year-old homeless man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing near the San Mateo Caltrain station last week.

Officers on Thursday responded to a report of a stabbing near the Transit Center in the downtown area around 4:10 p.m., according to San Mateo police.

A man suffering a stab wound was located on a pedestrian footbridge between the Transit Center and an alley behind 80 N. B St., police said.

The victim was taken to a trauma center and is expected to survive, police said.

Through numerous tips and witness accounts, detectives were able to identify Dantes Mkrtchjan as a suspect.

Mkrtchjan was seen Friday by a patrol sergeant in the area of Hillsdale Boulevard and El Camino Real, police said.

He was taken into custody and booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7700.
