SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) — An SUV injured an elderly woman when it crashed into a San Rafael restaurant Thursday afternoon while navigating through a farmer’s market, police said.

Police responded to reports that a vehicle had slammed into a building at 5:07 p.m. They found the SUV partially inside Lundy’s Home Cooking at 1143 Fourth St., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Lundy’s was closed at the time of the crash, but the SUV had struck a pedestrian, a 78-year-old woman, as it drove onto the sidewalk.

The woman was pinned between the car and the building and transported to Marin General Hospital with major injuries once paramedics freed her.

The driver of the older model Chevy Blazer, a 55-year-old El Sobrante man, is a vendor at the farmer’s market that was happening on Fourth Street at the time, police said. Fourth Street was closed to traffic for the market.

The driver was uninjured and taken to the police station where he was interviewed and released. Police said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
