SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — A cook at the Las Palapas Mexican restaurant was beaten while taking a break outside the closed establishment Tuesday night, according to San Jose police and a restaurant employee.

Police said they responded to reports that multiple suspects at the restaurant at 1442 S. White Rd had assaulted a man around 11:20 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the cook covered in blood and took him to the hospital.

Police said they had not yet determined whether the incident was gang-related and were still investigating.

The victim was still in the hospital, according to an employee at Las Palapas who declined to give her name.
