HERCULES (CBS SF) — Two badly burned occupants managed to escape a structure fire that blazed in their Hercules residence Thursday afternoon, according to Hercules fire officials.

The two burn victims were found already outside their residence by firefighters, fire officials said.

An air ambulance was requested for one resident with severe burns, covering about 60 percent of their body, fire officials said.

Both occupants were transported to the hospital and no other residents were found inside the structure, fire officials said.

The fire at the two-unit townhouse located at 6 Moraine Court was reported at 2:22 p.m., according to fire officials.

Firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from an upstairs bedroom window upon arrival. The fire was brought under control by 3:43 p.m., according to fire officials.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be an over-heated electrical fan.
