Central Valley Father Accused Of Abducting Kids Arrested Following Amber Alert

FRESNO (CBS/AP) -- A man suspected of abducting his two children in California's Central Valley Friday - prompting an Amber Alert notice - has been located and arrested.

37-year-old Phillip Tumilty was taken into custody in Atwater and his children were not harmed or injured, said the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept.

Deputies responded to a family disturbance Friday morning in the community of Empire and learned that Tumilty was involved in an argument with this ex-wife, according to the sheriff's department.

After the argument, the department said Tumilty told his ex-wife that he would take the kids - 9-year-old Phillip Tumilty Jr. and 6-year-old Tiffany Tumilty - to school. It was then discovered that the children were not taken to school.

Tumilty is a non-custodial parent and following unsuccessful efforts to contact him an Amber Alert was issued, the sheriff's department said.

Tumilty was believed to be headed from Stanislaus County town of Empire to Bakersfield after Friday morning's alleged abduction. The Amber Alert was issued for Stanislaus, Merced, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Kern and Madera counties.
