Elderly Concord Woman Found Dead Amid Extreme Heat

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- An elderly woman reported missing from an adult care home in Concord Sunday evening was found dead at a nearby elementary school hours later, a police sergeant said.

Around 5:30 p.m., an adult care facility on Hampton Drive reported an 86-year-old female resident with Alzheimer's disease missing, Sgt. Sam Staten said.

Police searched the area for a few hours and used police K-9s to track her location.

The woman was found Sunday night at an elementary school located about two blocks from the care home, Staten said.

"There's no way to know how long she was there," he said.

The sergeant said it was unknown what caused the woman's death or whether Sunday's high temperatures may have been a factor.

Concord and surrounding areas saw highs of up to 97 degrees on Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
