Port Of Oakland Official Racks Up $4,500 Strip Club Bill

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A high-ranking Port of Oakland official is under investigation for spending thousands of dollars in public funds for a party at a Houston strip club.

Port commissioners held an emergency closed meeting Friday to discuss the case involving Maritime Director James Kwon, according to an article by the San Francisco Chronicle.

During a dinner reception at Treasures, a gentlemen's club in Houston, Texas, Kwon entertained about a dozen shipping industry executives, and racked up a tab in excess of $4,500.

KCBS, CBS 5 and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier:

The receipt submitted for the reception said it was held at D. Houston Inc., which is the name of the strip club's parent company.

Port officials said they were working to strengthen their expense reimbursement policies.

Kwon has been maritime operations director since 2007.
