Woman Arrested In String Of San Jose Arson Fires

SAN JOSE  (CBS SF) - Arson investigators in San Jose have arrested a 56-year-old woman in connection with as many as 11 fires that were set in bushes and garbage cans since Sept. 26, a fire captain said.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Glynnis Sundelius, of San Jose, was arrested after investigators allegedly witnessed her deliberately set a fire in a garbage can behind Delna Manor Lane just before 5:45 p.m., San Jose Fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.

All 11 fires set in the past 18 days have been reported in an alley behind Delna Manor Lane, Guterrez said.

No structures were damaged in any of the fires, Gutierrez said, but the fire department has spent a vast amount of time and resources in responding to the blazes and calming the neighborhood's residents.

Investigators were working to determine exactly how many of the fires could be linked to Sundelius, Gutierrez said.

Initially, Sundelius was being charged only with setting the most recent fire on Saturday night, while the investigation was ongoing. There was no early word on a possible motive in this case.

The investigation was expected to continue Monday.
