Arrest Made In Killing Of Pacifica Man

PACIFICA (KCBS) – Authorities in Pacifica have made an arrest in the killing of a 24-year-old, the city's first murder in more than a decade.

Police continue to investigate the murder of 24-year-old Keith Coffey, who was found dead in the front yard of a home on Dell Road early Wednesday morning.

"Investigators of the Pacifica Police Department have identified Marc Anthony Furlan as a suspect and subsequently arrested him for homicide," said Pacifica Police Chief Jim Tasa.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

The 24-year-old Furlan has been booked into San Mateo County Jail. Tasa said that the two men were acquaintances and the killing was the result of an altercation between them.

"This incident is an isolated act of violence," Tasa said. "The most recent homicide in Pacifica previous to this incident occurred in 2000."

The cause of death has not been released at this time. Toxicology tests on Coffey have been ordered but a coroner's report is not expected for several weeks.

Tasa did want to reassure Pacifica residents that the city is a safe community to live in and not one where violent crime occurs on a regular basis.
