Santa Rosa Street Closed After Driver, Asleep At Wheel, Crashes Building

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A Santa Rosa street has been closed for most of the day after a driver fell asleep at the wheel Saturday morning and crashed into a building, damaging the property and nearby power poles, Santa Rosa police said.

The driver crashed into the property in the 2800 block of Cleveland Avenue around 1:40 a.m., police said.

Police said they do not believe alcohol or drugs are a factor in the collision, but rather the driver fell asleep.

The driver was not injured in the crash but two power poles were severed during the collision, police said.

PG&E officials had told police repairs could take as long as 12 hours.

Police closed Cleveland Avenue between Terry Lane and State Farm Drive and encouraged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area Saturday morning and into the early afternoon.
