Ex-Woodside School Administrator Faces 2 Years In Prison

WOODSIDE (CBS / AP) -- A former school administrator in San Mateo County has been sentenced to two years in prison for misappropriating public funds.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Timothy Hanretty of Woodside apologized for betraying the public's trust before he was sentenced in court Monday.

In July, the 55-year-old Hanretty pleaded no contest to six felony counts of misappropriating public funds.

Prosecutors say when he was an assistant superintendent at the Woodside Elementary School District, Hanretty falsified documents to take out $2.6 million in loans for school projects even though the board had only authorized $632,000 in loans.

In 2010, Hanretty became superintendent of the Portola Valley School District, where prosecutors say he billed the district $101,000 for renovation work done at his home. He resigned in January while under investigation.
