Cool School: Palo Alto High's Elective Classes Attracting Attention

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Palo Alto High School is known for its academic success, but that's not all.

They were the first high school ever to have its own sports magazine, and the football team won the state title...and its volleyball team won back to back state championships.

There's even a campus television station for aspiring broadcasters, but what really makes this school cool...is the outdoor patio dedicated to a glass blowing class.

"I'm pulling the glass out to make it look like a little flower," said Jeremy, a 10th grader.

Palo Alto is only one of a handful of public schools in the country to offer the course.

Students get hands on experience making glass blown pieces they later sell.  The profits help fund the program.

"Our artists need something and this has provided a venue for them to do something above and beyond what a typical high schooler would do," said Jerry Berkson, Assistant Principal.
