OAKLAND (KCBS) – The Oakland Raiders play the Chiefs in Kansas City Sunday. The long time rivals are a combined 3-9 this season.

“You just remember what (the rivalry) used to be,” John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. “To me, to be a rivalry or to be an active rivalry, both teams need to be good. And they have to have good records, and it’s usually when the team of the two that wins is going to be in the playoffs and be a favorite to maybe win the Super Bowl, those kinds of things. When there’s really a lot at stake, then you have a rivalry.”

The Former coach likes the Raiders in this one.

“I think the Raiders have the upper hand for a lot of reasons. I think they’ve won the last five straight there in Kansas City, so it’s not one of those things that ‘oh, we’re going into a den here.’ I’m sure they feel pretty confident. The Raiders aren’t real good right now, but they’re probably better than Kansas City.”

Among John’s favorite NFL match-ups this weekend are the Giants-Cowboys, the Redskins-Steelers, the Broncos-Saints, and the Eagles against the undefeated Falcons.

“I can see the Eagles knocking Atlanta off,” Madden said.
