Body Found On Remote Beach Identified As Missing Richmond Honor Student

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — Authorities say a body that washed up on a remote San Mateo County beach has been identified as that of a missing Richmond girl.

San County authorities say dental records were used to identify Cathy Qiu as the girl who was found dead near San Gregorio State Beach on Sunday.

Richmond police say the 16-year-old Qui was reported missing on Sept. 27 after running away from home.

Qui attended Albany High School, where school officials say she was an honors student with 4.25 GPA.

San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault says the cause of her death has not been determined, but there are no indications of foul play.

Qui’s body was found by two people walking along the beach around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
