Trick-Or-Treating Kids Hit While Crossing Santa Rosa Street

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A vehicle struck a 4-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy while they were trick-or-treating in Santa Rosa Wednesday night, according to police.

Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the collision in the crosswalk at N. Dutton Avenue and W. Eighth Street at 7:33 p.m.

Both children were transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening, police said.

The adults with the children explained to police that they had been-trick or-treating along W. Eight Street and were crossing to the eastside of N. Dutton Avenue in the crosswalk, when a vehicle traveling north approached the crosswalk.

The adults attempted to hold the children back, but they darted into the roadway and into the vehicle's path, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

There was no indication that drug or alcohol use was a factor in the collision, police said.

The collision remained under investigation. Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact police at (707) 543-3636.
