SF Man Accused Of Stealing Relative's Car; Trying To Run Him Over
SAN CARLOS (CBS SF) - A San Francisco man was arrested in Berkeley after he stole an elderly relative's car and attempted to run him over with it in San Carlos on Monday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft in the 2800 block of Tramanto Drive in San Carlos at 6:50 p.m.
The car's owner, an elderly man, informed sheriff's deputies that his relative, 31-year-old Ismael Alonzo, had stolen his 2010 Toyota Corolla from his garage.
The victim told deputies that Alonzo had attempted to run him over while taking the car.
At about 10 p.m., Berkeley police contacted sheriff's deputies and reported that Alonzo had unsuccessfully attempted a carjacking in Berkeley city limits, according to the sheriff's office.
Berkeley police told deputies that Alonzo had fled the scene in the car he had allegedly stolen in San Carlos, sheriff's officials said.
Alonzo was detained and arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Placer County.
