OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A five-year-old child was seriously injured when hit by a car while walking in Oakland’s Lake Merritt area Wednesday evening, an Oakland police officer said.

Police responded to the call at 5:10 p.m. in the 3500 block of Lakeshore Avenue, Officer Kevin McDonald said.

The child was taken to a hospital with head trauma, but his injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening, McDonald said.

The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
