Arson Suspected In Oakland Carport Fire That Destroyed 2 Cars

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Two cars and a carport were destroyed in a suspicious fire in Oakland early Saturday morning, an Oakland fire captain said.

The fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Courtland Avenue at one of two carports in front of a duplex building, Oakland fire Capt. Ian McWhorter said.

No one was injured in the blaze that destroyed the building manager's car along with one of the tenant's vehicles, McWhorter said.

He said the tires exploded as part of the fiery destruction.

The fire was confined to the cars and carport and did not spread to the duplex, he said.

The captain said investigators are treating the blaze as arson.
