Search Underway For Missing Man In Oakland Quarry

OAKLAND (CBS 5) -- Authorities were searching for a man who may have fallen into a body of water at an old rock quarry behind the Rockridge Shopping Center Tuesday night.

Crews were called to the quarry, located on the 4400 block of Montgomery Street, after the victim's roommate reported him missing.

According to the roommate, the man was searching for his cat in the steep terrain behind their home Tuesday evening. The roommate searched for the victim after he failed to return home and called authorities.

The man's flashlight was found about 15 feet down the hillside by the roommate, authorities said. A rescue team found the victim's cat in the area.

Rescuers on a boat were seen combing the lake for the victim, while firefighters scaled the rugged hillside above the water. As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, the man had not been spotted by authorities. Crews planned to continue searching the quarry and the lake for the missing man through the night.
