Port Of Oakland Names New Attorney

OAKLAND (CBS / AP) -- The Port of Oakland has hired a former member of the Oakland City Council to be the port's new attorney.

Port officials announced that Danny Wan will begin work for the port on Dec. 17.

Wan is currently the City Attorney for the City of Morgan Hill. Before going to Morgan Hill, he had previously worked for the port as its deputy port attorney from 2004 through 2008.

Before that, Wan had served on the Oakland City Council and had a private law practice.

A statement from port officials said commissioners appointed Wan after a six-month search.

The Port of Oakland oversees the Oakland seaport, which, according to port officials, is the fifth busiest container port in the U.S.

It also oversees Oakland International Airport, about 20 miles of waterfront and other properties.
