Toddler Safe After Pickup Slams Into San Jose Apartment

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A 2-year-old girl is safe after being thrown from her crib when a pickup truck slammed into a San Jose apartment building early Wednesday morning, police said.

The accident was reported at an apartment building at 710 N. 23rd St., near East Taylor Street, at 3:36 a.m., Officer Albert Morales said.

The girl was knocked out of her crib when the truck hit the wall, Morales said. She was taken to a hospital to be checked out, and has since been released, he said.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Officers found a truck nearby matching the description of the one that hit the building and flagged it down, Morales said.

Morales said the driver, whose name has not been released, is in his early 20s. He showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving and hit-and-run.

The case remains under investigation.
