Anglers Delight: Fish & Game Releasing Trout In Bay Area Lakes

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The state Department of Fish and Game this month is releasing thousands of trout into more than a dozen Bay Area lakes to the delight of local anglers.

The DFG announced it would release more than 30,000 pounds of rainbow trout in Bay Area lakes during the month of December. Some of the fish weigh as much as two pounds, according to the DFG.

"We want to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together through the time-honored tradition of fishing," DFG acting regional manager Scott Wilson said.

Merced Lake North in San Francisco, Horseshoe Lake in Alameda County, Bon Tempe Lake in Marin County, Lake Chabot in Solano County and Campbell Perc Pond in Santa Clara County are among the lakes that will be stocked with trout this month.

"Fishing, like many other outdoor pursuits, helps keep people connected to their natural environment," Wilson said.
