NorCal Man Arrested After Trying To Set Himself, Cops On Fire

REDWAY (CBS/AP) -- A Northern California man was under arrest after pouring gasoline over his body, law enforcement officers and a building, and attempting to ignite them all.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said 43-year-old Ricardo Guerra climbed on the roof of a grocery store in Redway on Sunday, drawing a crowd.

Authorities arrived and tried to talk him down, but said Guerra held a lighter near his body and refused.

Authorities say Guerra threw rocks and cinderblocks at officers and firefighters attempting to climb up to help him.

Once deputies got on the roof Guerra charged, throwing gasoline and trying to ignite the fuel that doused the officer's clothes.

Guerra was finally restrained and is being charged with felony battery, attempted arson, and other charges.

He is being held on $50,000 bail.
