Fairfield Man Arrested For Stealing Car Left Running In Driveway

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- A Fairfield man was arrested Friday on vehicle theft charges after allegedly stealing a car left running and unattended in a driveway, police said Saturday.

The car, a 1995 Infiniti sedan, was stolen from the driveway of a home on the 1100 block of Verdin court around 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, according to police.

Police spotted the car the next morning around 10:19 a.m. driving near East Travis Boulevard and attempted to pull it over, but the driver attempted to flee, police said.

The chase ended when the driver abandoned the car at Wren Court and fled on foot, leaving the car to roll forward unoccupied and crash into a parked vehicle, according to police.

Police located and arrested Richard Pillard, 44, following a search of the area, on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading police, possession of burglary tools, hit and run and probation violation.

Police noted that the theft was the second one to occur in the past two days when vehicles were left running and unattended.
