OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating how a man was struck by an Amtrak train in East Oakland Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to a report of an accident involving a train and a pedestrian in the 3900 block of Wattling St. in the city's Fruitvale district at about 12:25 p.m., Officer Johnna Watson said.

Watson said a southbound Amtrak train struck a 65-year-old man who was walking alongside the tracks.

He was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, Watson said.
