Fire Destroys Concord Apartment

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Firefighters were at the scene of a two-alarm fire that badly damaged an apartment in Concord Tuesday morning, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District captain said.

The blaze was reported at 6:55 a.m. in a second-story apartment at an eight-unit building at 3268 Tioga Road that is part of a larger complex, fire Capt. Robert Marshall said.

Crews arrived to find the apartment engulfed in flames, he said.

The blaze was controlled about 7:50 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the flames "pretty much destroyed" the apartment where the fire started, Marshall said.

There was fire and smoke damage to two apartments below and adjacent to that unit, he said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, and firefighters do not yet have a damage estimate.

Thirty-six firefighters responded, Marshall said.
