RICHMOND (CBS SF) — Police have identified a man who was shot and critically injured during a confrontation with officers in Richmond on Monday evening.
Elston Young, 30, was shot in the chest and torso by police around 5 p.m. Monday after he confronted officers responding to reports of a man with a gun behind the St. Johns apartment complex at Nevin Avenue and B Street, Detective Nicole Abetkov said.
Young, a San Francisco resident, remained hospitalized Tuesday and is set to undergo more surgery, Abetkov said. He is expected to survive.
As police responded to the call Monday evening, they received an alert from the city’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system that shots had been fired in the area.
