Pittsburg Police Officer, Suspect Injured In Late Night Shooting
PITTSBURG (KCBS) – A Pittburg police officer and a suspect were injured following a shootout in the city overnight.
The incident began around 11:30 Tuesday night when two officers saw a 30-year-old Oakley man, who had a long arrest record, at 12th and Maple streets.
A routine stop turned into a foot chase before the suspect turned and fired on police. One officer was hit and the suspect was injured as well.
The officer, a 5 ½ year veteran, has been treated and released. The suspect remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said they were fortunate there were no serious injuries in the incident.
“Our officers did an outstanding job. They come to work everyday knowing they can face a situation like this,” said Raman. “They acted upon the threat and did what they were trained to do and we’re glad that they are both okay.”
Several others were taken in for questioning, but only the suspect has been arrested.
