Phil Matier: Hundreds Of San Francisco City Workers Make More Than Governor

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – More than 500 San Francisco city workers made more than Governor Jerry Brown last year, and almost 200 of them made in excess of $200,000.

Brown, whose salary was $173,987, made about as much as a senior police sergeant in San Francisco. The same holds true for state Attorney General Kamala Harris who, at $151,127 a year, is making less than many of the lawyers she used to oversee as San Francisco District Attorney.

According to records from the City Controller's Office, roughly a quarter of the 36,000 full- and part-time workers in San Francisco topped $100,000 a year without overtime.

Topping the list was San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr, at more than $321,000, followed close behind by Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, with a salary topping $314,000.

And the salary for San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee? He came in 27th on the list at $260,547.
