Poll: California Voters Favor Gun, Ammunition Controls

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS/AP) – A new poll finds growing support for gun and ammunition controls among California voters, particularly with women.

The Field Poll released Tuesday found that 61 percent of California voters think it is more important to control firearms than to protect the rights of gun owners. It’s the biggest margin of support since Field began asking the question in 1999.

Poll: California Voters Favor Gun, Ammunition Controls

Eight in 10 voters favor spending more money to confiscate guns from felons, while three-quarters favor permits and background checks for anyone buying ammunition.

About 60 percent favor taxing bullets to fund violence-prevention programs, outlawing magazines that hold more than 10 bullets and banning rifles with detachable magazines.

Voters oppose letting trained teachers carry concealed weapons in schools.

The poll has an error margin up to 5 percentage points.
