Anti-Police Protesters Take Over Vallejo City Council Meeting

VALLEJO (KPIX 5) -- Dozens of angry protesters, which included members of the Black Panthers, took over the Vallejo City Council meeting on Tuesday night -- causing elected leaders to flee to the rear of council chambers and hide.

Witnesses said the demonstrators - who were upset over a recent officer-involved shooting - got wild and disruptive at one point during the meeting, shouting down the council members before taking over their chambers.

Fearing for their safety, the mayor and city council members fled to a back room as the crowd took over the dais, sat in the council members' seats and yelled over microphones.

Police on the scene tried to calm the crowd, but because of the size had to bring in additional officers to assist.

No one was arrested in the incident and police eventually broke up the unruly crowd, allowing the meeting to resume.
