17-Year-Old Shot Near High School In Oakland, Expected To Survive

OAKLAND (KCBS) — A 17-year-old Oakland boy was shot in the leg in front of his high school Thursday afternoon, police said.

The shooting at Fremont High School was reported at 3:55 p.m., located at 4610 Foothill Blvd., according to police.

The victim, a high-school senior, was hit in the leg. He was conscious and able to provide police with suspect information, Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint said.

He was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland and is expected to survive his injuries, Flint said.

According to Flint, the shooting occurred across the street from the school around the time classes were being dismissed.

A suspect in a hooded sweatshirt was seen running away from the scene, Flint said.
