The officers fired their weapons several times, police said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

A loaded handgun was found at the scene of the shooting, police said.

The Alameda County coroner’s office was attempting to identify the man on Sunday.

Both officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the police department and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
