Man Killed In SF Bayview District Shooting; Suspect Arrested

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Police identified a man arrested in connection with a homicide in San Francisco's Bayview District Monday morning as 22-year-old Cameron Williams.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at Third Street and Palou Avenue at 8:24 a.m. and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The victim was later identified by the medical examiner's office as 22-year-old Dominic Scott of San Francisco.

Officers saw a suspect, identified tonight as Williams, running from the scene and arrested him a few blocks away at Quesada Avenue and Keith Street, police said.

A gun believed to be the murder weapon was found in the wheel well of a nearby car, Esparza said.

The motive shooting remains under investigation, he said.

Police said Williams has a previous address in San Francisco, but his most recent city of residence is Fairfield. He was arrested on suspicion of homicide, a gang enhancement, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm.

The shooting prompted the extended closure of southbound Third Street at Palou Avenue.

Southbound San Francisco Municipal Railway bus and light-rail service was disrupted until about 12:45 p.m., according to transit officials.

Police are encouraging witnesses to come forward by calling the department's homicide detail at (415) 553-1145, its anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or by sending a text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
