Mountain Lion Spotted Near San Carlos Park

SAN CARLOS (CBS SF) -- San Mateo County authorities were investigating a report of a mountain lion sighting near San Carlos' Arguello Park on Wednesday night.

The cat was spotted about 9:30 p.m. in the area of Wellington Drive and Shelford Avenue, according to the county Office of Emergency Services.

In the event of a mountain lion encounter, residents are advised to face the animal, make noise and try to appear larger, and throw rocks or other objects at the animal.

Most mountain lions avoid contact with humans, county authorities said.

More information on mountain lions is available on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's website at www.keepmewild.org.
