Man Arrested At Oakland Airport After Pot Found In Bag

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A U.S. Airways passenger was arrested at the Oakland International Airport Thursday after security agents found 67 pounds of marijuana in his bag, a Transportation Security Administration spokesman said.

The marijuana was discovered by agents when they were doing a random search of the man's bag Thursday morning, TSA spokesman Nico Melendez said.

He said the TSA agents then notified Alameda County Sheriff's deputies, who provide security at the Oakland airport, and they ultimately took the passenger into custody.

Melendez said TSA agents mainly check for explosives but when they discover other illegal items they notify local authorities so they can take action.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said the passenger is a 21-year-old man who had a ticket for Charleston, S.C. He said authorities aren't releasing the man's name at this time.

Nelson said the man is being held at the county jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale.
