Man Found Shot Dead On San Jose Sidewalk

SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- Police in San Jose were investigating what led up to the discovery of a man found shot to death on a well-lit sidewalk early Monday.

A woman driving to work around 4:25 a.m. reported seeing man lying on a sidewalk at Capitol Expressway and Murtha Drive, police said. She called her husband, who then called police. Police confirmed the man was dead.

Lieutenant Mike Sullivan with the San Jose Police Department said the victim of a gunshot wound to the chest was approximately 30-years-old and Hispanic.

Investigators were canvassing the area and talking to potential witnesses. It does appear there was some sort of disturbance in the area in the hours leading up to the discovery of the body.

Sullivan said it's too early to tell if the murder was gang related.

The homicide marks the ninth in San Jose this year.
