13-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Shooting In East Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 13-year-old boy who was shot in East Oakland Tuesday morning is being treated at a local hospital for a serious gunshot wound, police said.

Sgt. Chris Bolton said Oakland police received a call around 9:30 a.m. that the boy had been dropped off at the local hospital after he was shot.

Bolton said police then "contacted" the boy at the hospital and are now investigating the incident.

The boy told police that the shooting happened in the 1300 block of 66th Avenue at about 7:30 a.m., Officer J. Moore said.

But police have been able to determine few details about the shooting and why it took the boy about two hours to arrive at the hospital as he has been uncooperative with the investigation, Moore said.

The victim remains at the hospital in guarded condition, according to Moore.

Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to call Oakland police at (510) 238-7230.
