3.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Lake Tahoe

MARKLEEVILLE (CBS/AP) -- A small earthquake has shaken a remote part of Northern California near the Nevada border.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake with a preliminary 3.3-magnitude occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday 103 miles east of Sacramento and 30 miles south east of South Lake Tahoe. It was centered 13 miles east south east of Markleeville in Alpine County.

Quakes this size usually don't cause major damage and none was reported.
