Daily Madden: The Silver Lining In Cal's #12 Seed

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Cal, St. Mary's and Pacific are among the 68 teams playing in the NCAA basketball tournament.

"The most important thing for these teams that get in are not what bracket you got in, not whether it was right or wrong, (not whether) you should have been seeded higher," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "That's for those guys in suits that call themselves experts to argue and yell at each other about... If you're a coach or you're a player, all you have to do is tell me when we're playing, where we're playing and who we're playing. Because I got to get ready, and I got to get film and I got to study and I got to learn that team... The participants really don't have time to complain and get in arguments. They better get going or they're not going to win anyway."

Cal drew a 12th seed and will face UNLV near in San Jose, not far from campus.

"I have to think as a number 12 seed, they probably are the happiest number 12 seed in America this morning," KCBS anchor Stan Bunger said.

"You're into the seeding and you're into a suit now," Madden said. "You got to get your film and you got to study your film. Though getting to San Jose should be pretty easy for them." (6:40)
