97-Year-Old Dies After Being Hit In Petaluma Crosswalk

PETALUMA (CBS SF) - A 97-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle in a Petaluma crosswalk more than a week ago died early Friday, according to the Sonoma County coroner's office.

Mary Friman died at 3:45 a.m. at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa, a coroner's office spokeswoman said.

Friman, who was visually impaired, was hit by a Nissan SUV in a crosswalk at Ely Boulevard South and East Washington Street around 9 a.m. on March 17, Petaluma police said.

The driver, 62-year-old Jan Recob of Petaluma, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police said the sun might have obscured Recob's view as she made a legal left turn. The incident is still under investigation, police Lt. Tim Lyons said.
