Man Found Dead Near Richmond Marina Identified

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A man whose body was found in the water near an industrial marina in Richmond on Sunday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 64-year-old Richard Wood.

Police responded to a report that a body was found in a marina area near the 300 block of West Cutting Boulevard around 3 p.m., Lt. Bisa French said.

When officers arrived, they found a man who was later identified as Wood, a Richmond resident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

French said there were reports of people having last seen Wood on Friday night or early Saturday morning.

There were initial indications that Wood's death was suspicious, and homicide detectives were called to the scene, French said.

However, after investigating further, detectives determined that the death did not appear to be a homicide and deemed it an unexplained death, French said.

The coroner's office is still working to determine the cause of death.
