Central Valley Teacher Sentenced For Yearlong Sexual Relationship With Student

MERCED (CBS/AP) — A Central Valley high school teacher charged with having a longtime sexual affair with an underage student has been sentenced to five years of probation and five months in jail.

Twenty-eight-year-old Melody Carter-McCabe was sentenced on Monday in Merced County Superior Court after pleading no contest to nine felony counts of unlawful sex with a minor. Carter-McCabe won’t have to register as a sex offender and will be given credit for jail time already served.

Prosecutors say the boy was 15 years old when the nearly yearlong relationship began in 2010. Carter-McCabe—an agriculture teacher at Livingston High School and mom—was the boy’s mentor in Future Farmers of America.

The boy told authorities he frequently went to the teacher’s San Joaquin Valley home, and they had sex at least 50 times.

[…] Melody Carter-McCabe sentenced to a paltry 5 months in jail Melody Carter-McCabe, a former teacher in Merced, California, was sentenced to JUST 5 MONTHS in jail for having a sexual relationship with a student for nearly a YEAR. The student was just 15 at the time when it started in 2010. It was established that they had sex approximately 50 times at her home over the course of the “relationship.” Is there is any doubt why we keep seeing these women doing this? Five months? Take a look at the John Aubrey case in Ohio. He did 5 YEARS for having sex with a student. The double standard in regards to punishment given to men as opposed to women is outrageous! I believe there should be a mandatory 10-year sentence for all teachers, regardless of gender, if they are found guilty of having sex with a student. That would put a dent in the number of cases we see every single day. […]
