Tahoe Resort Fined For Environmental Violations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS/AP) -- Heavenly Mountain Resort on Lake Tahoe's south shore has been fined over $90,000 for several violations of California environmental laws.

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control says the violations stem from a 2010 inspection of the resort and its upper maintenance shop above the California Lodge.

Among other violations, the resort was accused of failing to have controls to prevent spillage of a used oil tank, failing to have the used oil tank assessed and inspected, and failing to maintain secondary containment for the used oil tank and connected pipes.

Heavenly was penalized $94,000 for the violations and charged $26,000 to cover the agency's administrative costs.

Resort officials told the Tahoe Daily Tribune there was no spill associated with the violations and Heavenly currently is in compliance.
