Knife-Wielding Man Shot By Lafayette Police
LAFAYETTE (KCBS) - A shooting involving a law enforcement officer in Lafayette has injured one person Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened on the 3400 block of Woodview Drive after police responded to repeated 911 hangups, according to authorities.
Police said they arrived at the home to find a 28-year-old man holding a knife in the front yard. They ordered him to drop the weapon but eventually opened fire.
"I heard two or three shots … it sounded like gunshots followed by screams," said a neighbor who lives right across the street. The neighbor also said he saw one man taken away on a stretcher.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said the suspect was shot by Lafayette police and taken to John Muir Medical Center. Officers said he was likely to survive the injuries.
Police said three other people were home at the time of the shooting. They were attempting to obtain a warrant for further investigation Tuesday.
No officers were injured, Lee said.
