Man Arrested For Assault With Skateboard In Vacaville

VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- Vacaville police arrested a suspect who allegedly assaulted a man with a skateboard Monday morning.

A woman called police around 10:30 a.m. to report the assault on the bank of Alamo Creek under the Peabody Road overpass, Sgt. Keith Hopper said.

When officers arrived, she told them she and her boyfriend were drinking alcoholic beverages with the suspect and others when the suspect began berating her, Hopper said.

She said her boyfriend was assaulted with the skateboard when he tried to verbally intervene, Hopper said.

The woman said the suspect then left the creek and walked to the bike path adjacent to Peabody Road, Hopper said.

Police learned the suspect's name is Michael Lee Shipley and got a description of the clothes he was wearing, Hopper said.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and found Shipley, 36, outside a retail store in the 500 block of Peabody Road. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

The assault victim was taken to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Hopper said.
